The most recent release of Statistics Canada’s Consumer Price Index shows that the overall rate of inflation during the month of February 2022 reached 5.7% (as measured on a year-over-year basis), the highest such monthly gain since August of 1991.
As most consumers will be aware, the greatest price increases during the month were in the cost of groceries (up by 7.4% on a year-over-year basis), gasoline (up 32.3% compared to February 2021), and shelter (up by 6.6% since February 2021).
